Tip # 4- Stay Up Later
Sleeping too much can actually reduce your life expectancy.
A study published in the February, 2002, Archives of General Psychiatry reported that people who sleep more than eight hours per night had a significantly higher death rate than those who slept less.
But don’t start making plans to stay out until dawn. Getting too little sleep is not good for you, either. Getting less than four hours of sleep per night raised the death rate. And, studies have found that as the amount of sleep decreases the risk of obesity goes up.
The longest longevity seems to be those who sleep between six and seven hours per night.
Of course, if you find that you are tired during the day with that amount of sleep then you need more sleep. And don’t overlook the quality of your sleep. There are more than 70 recognized sleep disorders. Even if you sleep 6-8 hours a night, that does not mean that you get the restorative effect of that much sleep. If you sleep 8 hours and still wake up feeling like you need more sleep or you are consistently drowsy during the day, have your sleep evaluated at a Sleep Laboratory.
