Lung Cancer Screening

"The current five-year survival rate for lung cancer is only 14 percent. But that could soar to 80 percent if all smokers and ex-smokers received annual CT exams and early treatment."
—Claudia Henschke, MD
Division Chief of Chest Imaging at the New York Weill Cornell Center of New York Presbyterian Hospital.

Lung Scans Are Recommended For:

  • Smokers of cigarettes, cigars
  • History of tuberculosis or pneumonia

Also recommended for NON-SMOKERS with:

  • Exposure to second hand smoke
  • Exposure to asbestos or radon

Lung cancer kills more American men and women than any other type of cancer. In fact, lung cancer kills more people than most other cancers combined. The five-year survival rate for lung cancer is only 14%. However, it's estimated that 90% of lung cancers could be found when they are still curable through early detection and treatment. A High Definition CT Lung Scan is able to detect nodules as small as 1mm. This is about the size of a grain of rice and is 1/8 of the size at which they are visible on a traditional chest X-ray. CT Lung Scans can also detect early stages of emphysema, damage from asbestosis, pneumonia, and other infectious and inflammatory conditions.

 Early Detection Saves Lives

High Definition CT Lung Scans give you a powerful tool which has been shown to be six times more effective at early detection of lung cancer than a standard x-ray exam (Cancer, 12/00). In addition to catching early-stage cancer, the Lung Scan can reveal emphysema and lung scarring.

A recent study by Cornell University stated that a painless, 20-second lung scan could save more than 100,000 lives annually in the United States by detecting lung cancer at an early, curable stage.

Lung Cancer Screening is fast, painless and accurate. In just seconds, the Siemens Sensation 64-Slice CT scanner will capture exceptionally clear images of the lungs. These images can reveal small nodules or tumors before they progress into deadly cancers.
